The 5 villages that make up the Olympiaregion Seefeld have, for many years now, been offering facilities and conditions for cross-country skiing enthusiasts unparalleled anywhere else in Europe – with 266 kilometres of impeccably groomed trails covering all levels of difficulty, both beginners and experts alike can enjoy this Nordic sport to the full. The ratio between classic and skate skiing trails is pretty much evenly balanced and many sections have both types of trail running parallel to one another.

The Olympiaregion Seefeld, which played host to the Nordic disciplines in the Winter Olympic Games of 1964 and 1976, is hailed as a Mecca of cross-country skiing. Almost all the world’s cross-country elite have trained and competed here, not only because of the friendly Tyrolean hospitality, the breathtaking scenery and the ideal climatic conditions, but also because of the superb network of trails which is constantly being improved and extended.

Innsbruck Land

Der Bezirk Innsbruck Land ist ein politischer Bezirk des österreichischen Bundeslandes Tirol. Er umschließt den Bezirk Innsbruck-Stadt, grenzt im Westen an den Bezirk Imst, im Osten an den Bezirk Schwaz, im Norden an Bayern (Landkreis Garmisch-Partenkirchen) und im Süden an Südtirol.

Der Bezirk liegt in einem Teil des Inntals (Oberinntal und Unterinntal), im Nordtiroler Teil des Wipptals und ihren Seitentälern (Stubaital, Sellraintal, Gschnitztal, Wattental). Weiters gehört das Gebiet des Seefelder Plateaus zum Bezirk.

Die südliche Grenze mit dem Brennerpass ist gebildet durch den Alpenhauptkamm. Der Bezirk umfasst neben den Tälern hauptsächlich alpines Gebiet (Stubaier Alpen im Südwesten, Tuxer Alpen im Südosten, Wettersteingebirge und Karwendel im Norden).

Tirol

Tirol ist eine Region in Mitteleuropa, die sich vom Westen Österreichs bis in den Norden Italiens erstreckt. Ursprünglich unter einer Herrschaft, wurde Tirol nach dem Untergang des Habsburger Vielvölkerstaates Österreich-Ungarn nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg durch den Vertrag von St. Germain auf zwei Staaten aufgeteilt:

1. Nordtirol und Osttirol (das heutige Bundesland Tirol) zur neuen Republik Österreich
2. Südtirol und Welschtirol, die heutige Autonome Region Trentino-Südtirol, zu Italien

Benannt ist die Region nach der alten Residenz ihrer Landesfürsten, Schloss Tirol bei Meran im Burggrafenamt.

Landschaftlich ist Tirol durch die Alpen geprägt. Tirols höchste Berge sind der Ortler (3905 m ü. A) und die über 3859 Meter hohe Königspitze in Südtirol, der Großglockner (3798 m ü. A) in Osttirol, der Monte Cevedale (3769 m s.l.m.) in Welschtirol (Trentino) und die Wildspitze (3768 m ü. A) in den Ötztaler Alpen in Nordtirol.
