Schenna is situated on the sunny hill just above Meran in South Tyrol, embedded in vineyards and orchards – at an altitude of 600 metres above sea level.

Schenna stretches across an area of 48 km² and reaches the borders of the city of Meran (300 metres) up to both local mountains, the Hirzer (2,781 metres) and the Ifinger (2,581 metres).
Besides the town centre (600 metres), Schenna consists of a further six villages/suburbs, which reach from 716 metres above sea level to 1,536 metres. These are: Verdins, St. Georgen, Schennaberg, Videgg, Unter- and Obertall. Each suburb has its own characteristic beauty.

Over the past 50 years, the former farming village has developed into one of the most important tourist resorts in South Tyrol. The excellent location, climate, varied and high-quality choice of tourist accommodation, personal development, as well as hospitality have all brought much success to Schenna.

The suburb Verdins
Verdins is situated at an altitude of 850 metres, just 3 km above Schenna near Meran and has about 400 inhabitants. Verdins avails of an impressive town centre with new buildings and a church. In addition, there is a school, as well as a kindergarten.

It’s a place to find peace and quiet. Many hiking trails lead you directly from Verdins up into the Alpine mountain world. With the Verdins mountain cable-cars, altitude can easily be conquered.

Nel cuore dell’Alto Adige, dove iniziano le Alpi, la città di Merano e oltre quindici
comuni limitrofi costituiscono un’area geografica molto particolare indicata come
Merano e i suoi dintorni.
In questa zona le aspre montagne incontrano le pianure, le Alpi incontrano le
terre del Mediterraneo, dando vita a una serie di piacevoli contrasti che rendono
unico questo territorio.
Merano si è guadagnata l’appellativo di “Città Giardino” poiché gode di un clima
particolarmente mite che ha consentito negli anni la convivenza della flora mediterranea
con quella alpina, favorendo la coltivazione di palme e magnolie, con i
massicci del Gruppo delle Alpi di Tessa (oltre 3000mt) a fare da sfondo.

Luoghi e natura
Guardandola dall’alto, Merano e i dintorni hanno l’aspetto di una stella, nel cui
centro risiede la città di Merano e i cui raggi sono rappresentati dalla Val Venosta,
la Val Passiria e la Val d’Adige. Lungo queste valli si sviluppano meravigliosi e
tipici borghi che negli anni hanno fatto del turismo la propria risorsa naturale
concentrandosi nell’offrire agli ospiti tutte le attenzioni e i servizi necessari per
concedere loro una splendida vacanza. Tra questi ricordiamo l’Alta Val di Non,
Avelengo, Caines, Lana, Langundo, Marengo, Nalles, Naturno, Parcines, Prissiano,
Rifiano, Scena, Tesimo, Tirolo, Val d’Ultimo, Val Passiria e Val Senales.
Tornando, invece, all’aspetto naturalistico va detto che a Merano, sin dal 1930, le
Giardinerie comunali si occupano di curare le aiuole e i parchi di tutta la città; nel
mese di aprile si svolge un importante evento biennale, Meranflora, mentre lo
splendido giardino botanico di Castel Trauttmansdorff, nominato nel 2005 “Parco
più bello d’Italia”, è aperto al pubblico per gran parte dell’anno.
